Crescent Moon and Venus

January 9, 2016

There you are again,
Hanging in the eastern sky,
late night/pre-dawn,
Like pearls on a celestial necklace.

I see you as I ride
my Fuji bike
at my usual
early-morning time,
my freedom time,
no phones, emails, meetings,
just me, Mother Nature,
the wind, the sweat,
the hills, up and down,
and the joy of living.

I think:
how many million,
tens or hundreds of million,
people are also
seeing you this a.m.,
all connected together
in the great mystery
of (why) life and afterwards?

I think of ancestors past,
thousands, tens or hundreds
of thousands, or millions
of years ago
who also saw you
Just
Like
I
Am
Seeing
You
Now.

Did my parents, and their siblings,
And their parents,
and the generations before,
see you as they
brought in the cows
for milking
or worked outside
in the pre-dawn dark?

I ride my bike
to stay healthy
and motivated
so I can keep
doing the work
to enable generations to come
to be able to
see and appreciate you
and all that makes
this universe
and this earth
so beautiful and
worth living
and dying
for.

Worth working for
day
after day
until
the Big Change,
and human societies
are everywhere
with Love
as the goal
and the
daily
way of being.

Amen.
